Haiyang is close to the Yellow Sea in the south with five
fishing towns and 108 villages combining agriculture and
fishery. The population engaged in fishery hits 58,000
and the fishing labor 23,000. The neighboring waters starts
from Guantingzui of the Lute Island sharing border with
Rusha, and ends in the T-gulf bordering Laiyang. The coast
line is 229,400 meters long. The waters stand at 35°41′00″-36°46′40″N,
120°50′48″-121°28′30″E and cover an area of 430,000 hectares.
Among the 430,000 hectares, the shallow sea occupies 93,000
hectares, the shallow-tidal-flat 10,000 hectares, the
pond with sea water 3,400 hectares, the industrialized
fishing cultivation 80,000 square meters and the intensive
cofferdam cultivation 133 hectares. There are 9 islands-Qianliyan,
Magudao, Ludao, Yadao, Tubudao, Pipadao, Zhudao, Daozili
and Nidao. The 9 estuaries in Haiyang are the T-gulf,
Mahe Port, Yangjiao Pan, Xiaohaikou, Zhaizi Port, Xinjia
Port, Dabu Quan, Lichawang and Longtou Port. The high-quality
water and other natural resources make it home to many
kinds of fishes, shrimps, crabs, shellfishes, alga, trepangs
and abalones. Haiyang possesses one commercial port, one
first-grade fishing ports, two second-grade fishing ports
and 26 small fishing ports. There are 1570 fishing boats
with 41,000 kw. There are three ship-building factories
with a yearly capacity of 500 ships, 48 enterprises engaged
in processing aquatic products, a wholesale market, 78
refrigeratories with the storage totaling 41,000 tons
and the yearly processing capacity hitting 250,000 tons.
By the year 2002, the gross fishing output value totaled
2.92 billion yuan, among which the gross output of the
aquatic products reached 291,000 tons and the gross value
of the aquatic products 1.72 billion yuan. |
